Market Harborough, Leicestershire, United Kingdom

We are a small, friendly, informal, model flying club situated just outside Market Harborough.

The origin of the Leicester Area Radio Control Society (LARCS) goes back to the 1950s when the late Geoff Franklyn and several modelling enthusiasts formed a group that initially used a number of local WW2 airfields. In 1962, they decided to form an official club and settled in our present location.

Because of proposed land development, in 2002 the club moved just a few hundred yards to a new, much larger field. We now have a mown area of just under 3 acres which makes our site quite special.

Gumley first thing until I realised I was supposed to meet Marc at Larcs. Had a BBQ for lunch and watched Matt put a few good flights in. It got busy after a while, which was nice to see, but not really my thing. Back to Gumly for a few cups of tea and a bit more flying.

Went to Larcs but decided it was too cold/windy to hang around in the open so drove through to Gumley. Had a few flights before it got busy and I went back to Larcs. Quite a few around and they had a BBQ. Stayed for a few hours until everyone packed up and I went back to Gumley for a few more.

Started at Larcs in the frost, on my own for a few hours. Went for lunch and then on to MK. Just 4 of us flying in the sun. Not sure where everyone was, the weather was great.

The forecast for the day looked amazing. I tried to get an invite to Parkhall MHC, but unfortunately Ross wasn't able to make it and wasn't sure anyone else would be there.

I decided to hit Larcs early and take it from there. The weather was perfect. Very light breeze, blue skies and not too cold. Got 21 flights all on my own before I went for lunch. Almost went to MK for the afternoon session, but decided it wasn't worth the drive with only 3 hours between opening time and sundown. Went back to Larcs and had more flying until some para-motors arrived. They were giving tandem flights so I just stayed out of the way until the sun went down.

Now at home and very pleased to find I did 34 flights, with a total of 3 hours actual flying time. What an awesome day!

Rushed lunch due to a meeting. Quick couple of flights in the gloom and cold. The shield of the car works pretty well, I wonder if it's worth coming up with a wind breaker of some sort for places like MK.

With the terrible forecast, I wasn't expecting to get any flying in today. Got up and eventually realised the sun was out and there wasn't much wind.

Got in the car and drove to LARCS to find the farmer had changed the locks again. 😠 This happens every time I have a half decent opportunity so I'm not joining this club again!

On the way back I realised I might be able to sneak a couple of flights in at Clipston football club. Arrived, unpacked, waited for a dog walker to leave and tried to fly. Unfortunately I'd forgotten that I'd storage charged the batteries in lieu of yesterday's weather forecast. F!!!

Drove through the Gumley at which point I realised I was in danger of missing the promised breakfast with my wife, so I had to turn around.

Had breakfast with El, dropped her off at the stables and got 2 flights in at Gumley on the way home. Too windy to practice anything so I'm back at home and the forecast rain has just kicked in.
