Up early to find Gary already at the field. Blue skies and hot, damn bugs and spiders floating around. Got some really nice flights in before everyone else arrived. Put the other ESC with the new heatsink on and started testing it. It seems to work well. On one hard flight I had to land 1 minute early with low voltage and a warm pack, but no warning beeps from the ESC, so it does seem to work.
Took a lunch break and had a full english breakfast at the cafe. 2 More flights before I dumb thumbed it into the ground. I wasn't even doing anything difficult, and it was a few mistakes high. I must have fallen asleep with the heat and big lunch. It doesn't look too bad, mostly stuff I have, although the ESC is too damaged to use again. At least I know the heatsink works.

Grey skies all day, but sun forecast at the end of the day. Turned out perfect, clear skies and sun. A bit of everything with beginner smack, aerobatic autos and some piro flipping loops. Bill shared one his eccles cakes with me. Great session.

Was supposed to meet Mark at Central, but no reply on Facebook and wasn't sure he was going, so I went to Gumley instead.
Had 1 interesting flight where the Opti-Guard was unplugged and as I went for some moves, the VBar rebooted and killed the motor. Landed it OK, plugged the guard back in, no more issues.
Then I got a message that Mark was at Central so packed up and left.

Another epic session. Quite a few people there, but not many flying so I owned the flightline. Just did flight after flight. During one of the flights, there was a pop and the motor died. I auto'd it inverted into the long grass. Struggled to find it, but Mike got it eventually. Not a scratch on it, amazing, super happy. Couldn't find anything wrong mechanically, nothing in the VBar log, no overheating beeps from the ESC, really stumped as to what it was. Flew it gently for a bit, until I figured out in a thermal shutdown, the ESC will reboot completely and there won't be any beeps. Problem solved. Going to get a big old heatsink and stick it on the Talon.
Loads more flights, until they turned the genny off and everyone left. I ran my own genny and stayed until 8 o'clock. Long drive home, having a drink, amazing weekend.

Epic morning, loads of flying, Gary's doing rolling circuits, 8 or 9 people out, perfect weather. Worked piro flipping towards myself and piro globes. Initially I only had one weak point on the globes, but they they went rubbish and I couldn't them at all. Probably still in the elusive stage. Had breakfast at 11 and then left at 12 for MK.

Went back after lunch to get some more flying and help David with his 450x again. The skies turned very grey, not really worth losing orientation, so didn't fly much.

Beautiful day, blue skies and sun, although it was fairly windy and right in the face. Completely on my own for a few hours and I got to work on some really nice piro flipping circuits.

Dropped in at LARKS on the way home to find out about joining, but there wasn't anyone there.

Good wind in the face practice. Mark and Chris were flying as well. Really struggled with last bit of reversing piro loops, but at least it's something to work on.
Was on my own for the last 40 minutes, and the gliders started landing next too me. I realised they were taking a shortcut to finish at the carpark, so I kept it close and just did hovering in the last flight. Then got a huge fright as this glider comes from behind and goes a few meters over me and and heli.

Blue skies and a bit of wind. After yesterday's packed flightline, I expected it to be just as busy, but nobody there. How cool!
Got 5 flights in, practised rolling circuits and loops, piro loops, funnels. Still getting the ESC overheating warning beep, so I need to change to the Kontronik as soon as I can get my hands on a progcard.

Left work intending to go home for lunch when I realised there was no wind and the sky wasn't too grey. Went to the club instead not expecting anyone, but the car park was just about full. Something about bad weather over the next few days.

Worked on sideways flipping loops and some general slow stuff. The last flight was a perfect combination of super rolling circuits, enjoyed that so much.

Nice conditions, but had to help David set up a 450x. That didn't go well. It felt like the aileron had massive delay with heli continuously wanting to roll. Eventually got it over the long grass, flicked into auto and dropped it in. No damage, but David thought I was doing something wrong and he'd try it. Lasted about 30 seconds before it went in properly. I shouldn't have let him fly it, but he was adamant. No idea what it was, should probably do a complete firmware reset and start from scratch.

After he left I worked on some weakside piros loops, circuits, flips. Almost put it in a one stage doing simple stuff. At least the flightline was empty, nice to be praticing on my own again.

It's all starting to come back!

Early start at 7, Gary turned up pretty soon after. What a perfect morning, absolutely no wind initially, sunshine, good vis. Still running the rebuilt heli in, started with easy orientation type stuff, making sure nothing was working it's way loose. Eventually put the proper blades and canopy on, and started doing more adventurous moves.

The genny was running great as well. Fairly quiet, although there were complaints of it sounding like a burger van and making some people hungry. Kept charging for hours on end, drawing more and more, eventually 3 of us charging 6 packs at once.

Almost no wind and good vis. A few people out enjoying the summer evening, but I got a few in anyway. Some very gentle 3D, not stressing the new build too much. I find orientation a real issue with the evening skies, so I'm seriously thinking about getting a system with rescue. Just got to find something that flies nice for not too much money.

Went out to Central after not enjoying LMAC. Exactly what I needed. The genny worked brilliantly, left it running continuously charging batteries, and I got to fly both rebuilt 550s with lots of space in case it went wrong.

Had some really interesting things going on with both helis. If I pulled something with a lot of collective, the heli would either jitter or simply cutout for a few seconds. Checking out the logs, the vbar says it was getting low voltage on the rail and then having cold/warm starts. When I ran the OptiGuard, there were no issues, so I guess the power's not getting through and the guard is keeping the voltage up.

Took it easy initially as this was the repaired heli from last Sunday's thermal shutdown. By the fifth flight I was really starting to get into practice again and doing piro tictocs with the higher headspeed when it the ESC shut down again. Pretty low, so the same damage again, blades skids, couple of servos. Not sure what to do now. Better ESC, move to a 700, who knows? I don't :(
I'm not sure I want the cost of a 700, but I need to keep improving so maybe the 550 isn't enough heli. I give up.

Far too windy to do any flying today, so I spent the morning repairing Bill's 450. Went though to the club and test flew it successfully.

Pretty bad weather all day, but there was a gap with sun and the wind letting up towards the evening. Had one decent flight with some of the harder style of Zone, and then another where I was trying power pullouts. Sort of like a rainbow, but at the end, don't reverse the collective. Keep it on and reverse the elevator to pull out. It takes a lot of power as the blades almost stall. I did a few of those and then the ESC died. Had to auto down behind the fence.
Battery, blades and canopy all dead. The rest doesn't look too bad, but no doubt the cyclic servos are bust, as well as a few links. Maybe it's time for better equipment.

Just 3 batteries left from yesterday's evening session. Did some F3C style aerobatics, then some of the lowest piro tictoc circuits I've ever done. Probably about 2 foot off the ground at each point. Pretty silly really. I think I haven't crashed in so long, confidence is far too high.

Left at 7 to be there by nine. Mega breakfast with Max.
Then got some flying in, bit of work on the chaos and some general messing around. Max's first flight ended with him ploughing the glider and then having a lipo fire.
I had a couple more flights. He then tried the EFX which he ploughed prop first into the ground. The battery was puffed like a ball. 2 flights, 2 totals for him. We got the Yaks out and did some combat for a bit.
The flightline got a bit busy so we left for LMAC early enough to miss the weekend traffic back.

Grey skies, but light wind and fairly warm. Flightline not too busy, got lots of flying done. Worked on weakside piro loops and skids in piro tictocs mostly. The chaos is coming along nicely too.
Flew Gary's Goblin 700 and lost orientation within a minute. Did a stall turn to the left and as I exited, it veered away from the flightline. I tried to turn it back, but wasn't sure which way it went. Fortunately high enough to play the controls and figure out which way it was facing. Could have been expensive.

The wind was forecast to drop, but it didn't. Did one flight were I set the piro rates according to the metronome app I have on my phone. My piro rates on the sim is 60 RPM and the heli was pretty close, just a few percent out.

Epic day at MK. First to fly at around 10, last to leave at 7:30. The usual MK bunch plus Micheal, Nicholas and Craig from somewhere near London. Pretty windy, but I tried working technical stuff anyway. Micheal flies like a maniac, really good to watch. By the end of the day he'd calmed down a bit and it was interesting to watch him work on new moves instead. Towards the end I did an all out smack flight to prove I could do that kind of stuff, which he seemed to enjoy. Amazing day.

Windier, colder and more grey than expected. Was buddyboxing Bill on the 450x and it just tipped forward on its own and went in. Really frustrating, can only think it was a transmitter failure of some sort. It passed the range check fine.
I had a couple of flights practising tictocs and piro loops, but wasn't really feeling it. Then forgot to go into IU and had a moment when the motor died. Got it down OK and called it a day.

Fairly busy with the blue skies and t-shirt weather. A really aggressive first flight with waves, backwards tictoc 8s, rolling circuits, etc. Calmed down and did some practice rolling pole-dancers and piro rolling pole-dancers. Skids-in tictocs are really settling in and I started working on reversals and piro tictoc circuits again. Met Adrian from Rotors, Rachel, Tony and a bunch of really good pilots.
I got to fly Kev's Trioblin 700 and his Goblin 570. I was offered a go on an Avant Mostro, but it looked too good to fly.

Not having flown for a few days, it was nice to get out again before work. Really nice conditions, with a bit of sun and light wind. Worked on piro flipping towards the flightline at various angles and switched between half, single and double piros. Lots of work on piro circuits as well. I can do them well enough, but as soon I think about flipping towards myself, I can barely hold it even though nothing has yet changed.
Retired one of the newer Zippy packs. Getting LVC, but the pack says 25% left when I check it. This was the one that arrived with one cell lower than the rest and I should have returned it straight away, but still, it lasted 50 flights. Seriously f'd off. I joke around a lot at the field, but you won't catch me touching your stuff. This guy thinks he can hide my transmitter, and empty my charging case while I'm flying and that pissed me off massively. First chance to fly in a few days with the bad weather we've been having and now I'm too angry to carry on, ruined my evening.

Can't remember much, flew a lot. Green developed a squeak when turning the blades slowly. I thought at the time it could be something about a bearing going bad, so I retired it. Took Blue out the car for the rest of the day.
Said hello to Rachel and we ended up flying together with a few others away from the youth section. Some of my moves are coming together nicely, flying with others always seems to help, but only those that are a little better than me, not the pros.
Connor and I packed up late, almost the last to go. I went out for a meal with the MK guys again and went to bed early. Woke up at 2 o'clock in the morning and drove straight back in 3 hours. Woke Ellen up with a cup of tea, so I'm sorted.

Went to fly with Gary and Mark. The sky was pretty grey and my flying wasn't very good with the blue canopy. None of the moves I'd been practicing worked with the bad visibility and rotor coming off the hedge behind. Found an issue with tail that also might have been contributing. Of the 2 bolts pinning the tail control to the slider, one was missing and the other one was loose enough to unscrew with my fingers. Not a lot of fun, a bit cold, but good to see the guys. Now warmed up at home with a cider.

Nice session in the sun. A busy flightline that disappeared as soon as I rolled up. Thanks guys!
Had a flight on Green with the new blades, perfect.
Did the same XFC moves as this morning but with a bit of wind and they were all over the place. More practice required.
Test flew Kevin's 450 DFC and it's a quick bugger. Loops had a definite pull to the left, and I almost put it in when I flicked the wrong idle-up switch.
I'm thinking about putting telemetry on the 550s. Depending on the flight style I'm sometimes landing with more than 40% left in the pack.

Not a very nice day, but exactly what I was needed. Spent hours finalising the setups on both machine, as well having a look at Richie's 500. Quite happy with the way my favourite is going again, but 4 weeks of not flying have taken their toll, never got comfortable or low. Had a vibration issue on Green, although eventually tracked it down to a bent torque tube.
I even had a play with the vibration analysis on the VBar, although it took me 10 minutes to find it.
Very happy that I have something to fly with some decent weather coming up this week.

After I smashed the 550 at Central, I went to test the other one at LMAC. Had one flight, the trims were out. Couldn't face going through all the settings, etc. so called it a day.

I forgot the A machine at home, so used the one in the car. Got four decent flights out of it before the ESC desoldered itself again! That's the third time and I made damn sure my soldering was good last time. The connectors slide together very easily, perhaps that is generating heat. I'm just going to replace the whole ESC with a backup I have.
A few of the cyclic servos are stripped, but the rest of the heli looks OK.

Finished work early, quite a few people at the club, not much flying going on. The wind was a bit stronger than expected but I got some flights in, nice work on piro funnels. I could have flown more had I brought the charger.

Pretty windy, but not as much as expected. Flew on my own for 2 and a half hours. Lots of work on aileron stirring. Good session, until the wind picked up as forecast and the temp seemed to drop.

Still very windy and 5 full packs to get rid of, so I went to Gumley to do some flying. Made some nice inroads on to aileron stirrer pole dancers. Love that move. Not likely to be flying over the next couple of days so all packs now on storage charge.

Really nice session, alternating with Chris again. Had my first attempts at sideways flipping loops. I think it could be a nice move, even sideways flipping rainbows would be nice. Did a lot of work on my current stuff, including some nice progress on RPFPF. 4 Stars just for the SFLs.

Soldered a new connector on the ESC on one 550 and changed the OWB on the other. Test flew them at Gumley, both flying great. Too windy to do any real flying.

First flights at 8, on my own for the first hour. Flew until about 3. Eventually the EC5 disconnected itself from the ESC. Need to solder that properly. Took the repaired 550 out and tried her. Turns out the OWB is stuffed and feels very springy. Superb day though, all that sim has paid off and I was pulling moves I couldn't do last week. -1 to 3 degrees, sun and no wind made for a perfect day of flying.

4 degrees. overcast but almost no wind. Opened the shed and had the heating on. Very relaxed session. Really enjoyed the last flight, just aileron tic-tocking circuits all over the field. So good when the wind is almost nothing. Cold air is more dense, but enough to feel in flight? Just seemed so solid.

A bit murky when I arrived, but the wind dropped and the sun almost came out. Did 6 packs on the 550, would have done more, but I missed charging 1 pack and another didn't have velcro. Worked on nose down tic-tocs, flipping spiral loops, flipping spiral circles, rolling spiral circuits and low piro-flipping.
Brian gave me some of his soup, so I'm sorted for lunch. Got three flights on the yak as well. Great session!

8 Degrees and windy, but I was warm in my full winter setup. Had a great first flight, lots of piro wobbles, dahl wobbles, worm wobbles and practicing the chaos.
2nd flight didn't go too well when I thought it started raining and put the heli down too quickly. Killed the tail blades, vertical.fin and the front/back TT gears. I still give it 2 stars as the first flight was so enjoyable.
Finished off with a few flights on the Yak, bit too windy though.

The forecast was for wind and rain. I though I saw a gap of in the forecast. Got half a flight in and it started raining. It's only going to get windier and wetter so that's it for the day. Going home to finish repairs on the other 550.

The governor on this heli lags with the exact same setup. Tried a higher gain (35) and got weird noises in climbout, so went back to medium (25). Will probably try something in the middle next time.
