The 500 is grounded again with tailshaft bearing problems!
It was too windy for the 450. Landing was a real challenge and on one occasion I was happy that I managed to get it down unharmed.

The flights were ok and the weather still great. But after two flights with the 500 I heard some strange noise. During spool down there were more vibs than usual. I felt the tail while Spinning the blades and it felt really notchy. I guess that the tail shaft bearings got damaged by the bent tail shaft I had been struggling with for a while.

I was so happy to have the 500 back in the air and now: back to the bench

What a day! Perfect weather and finally I have the 500 fixed! New bearings in the tail blade holdes, new tail rotor hub and new tail shaft finally did the trick. Also added a ferit ring on the rpm wire and now even the governor is working. It was a blast to fly! Also the 450 did great without wind against blue skies.

It always amazes me how much fun it is when everything just runs smooth!

Nice flights on the 450, but still missing the 500. Turns out the tail vibs were so bad that they completely destroyed the tail bearings.

Still struggling with vibrations on the T-Rex 500. They got so bad that one screw for the tail shered off. This really can't go on like this.

The flights on the 450 were ok, but the problems with the 500 dampened the mood.

I tried my first flight on the 500 with the governor and almost crashed the heli. The headspeed was a lot higher than indicated in the software! It just kept increasing the headspeed and must have gotten close to 3.000 😱 before I pulled throttle hold and managed to bring it down safely.

After that I did some more testing but the heli flew good only at about 2.100 headspeed, over that it started making strange noises. I tested the belt tension and there was no tension whatsoever. My guess is the belt is gone and at higher headspeeds it was touching the boom. I am lucky no serious damage happened, but I am not looking forwared to taking off the side frame to change the belt.

So upset! Perfect weather, both helis ready, all packs charged and then after the first flight the transmitter got loose from the neckstrap and fell onto the sticks! The right stick is very notchy now. So despite the great weather predicted for the whole week no more flying for me until I get this fixed 😠

After three weeks of not flying I finally got back in the air. I was quite happy, the inverted flying was acutally better than before the "break". Maybe my brain needs a couple of days off to "store" the progression - or maybe I just had a good day!

On a not so positive note: my power supply broke and I am back to charging with only one 50W charger!

I was a guest at a local flying field. It was really nice. I also wanted the opinion of the other pilots regarding my vibrations on the T-Rex 500 but I didn't even get it into the air. During spool-up it almost tipped over.
I will change all the bearings in the head and will have another look at the FBL-System and whether the wires are too tense.

I changed the tail blades on the 500 but it still has severe vibrations. They are not visible but the heli banks strongly to the left and the log files are full of extreme vibration messages.
With the 450 I did mostly inverted training.

The 450 flew well, but the 500 definitively has vibration issues. It is unflyable at this point.

I think I fixed the vibration issues last night and activated the governor. It flew decent, but it did not reach the headspeed I wanted. At night it turned out it has governor glitches. Will have to figure out what to do there.

Than I did some nice flights on the 450. I put it to the higher headspeed and thundered over the field. Really exciting! Did some loops as high and big as I dared. Then I made some simulated autorotations by switching to the lowest headspeed and bringing it down aggressively from really high up. Due to the sound when flaring I think the headspeed would have been good for a auto landing.

Finally got to remaiden the 500, after it took me ages to repair it after my first heavy crash. I miss my old blades, the new spinblades have a crazy chirping sound! Other than that the heli flew good, although I took it super slow to check out if everything was holding up ok.
I am really happy my 500 bird is up in the air again! 😀

I just did not feel connected to the heli today. I had a bad feeling flying inverted so I just kept it upright. Did some circles with higher headspeed though (3000 rpm). Will have to check vibration logs to make sure everything is ok at that headspeed.

Had something strange happening. In forward flight I pulled back elevator to make a half backflip to transition into inverted backwards flight. When the heli was vertical I gave strong negative collective to maintain speed and continued the flip. When the heli was almost inverted the tail suddenly turned 180°! Really scary. I am still not sure whether I did not have enough tail gain or what happened there.

The grass is getting very high on the field. If I ever crash it will be a hassle finding the heli ;-)

Other than that a nice session, just having fun and doing some inverted training and flips and rolls. No big advances there. I think I need to spend some time on the sim or try to risk a little bit more. But with my T-Rex 500 being still weeks from being repaired (no time for wrenching) I am afraid of standing there without a working heli.

Really nice flights, some flips, inverted circles and just a really good feeling. Change the rear torque tube umbrella gears worked great and applying Dry Fluid Gear Lube made the heli quite a bit quieter.

Visibility was not very good. The torque tube gear is definitively damaged. Heard the teeth jump during an aggressive pitch pump. 😱

Finally a session with enough time to really enjoy the flying. The weather was just great and I just loved the flying. No specific training on anything but just enjoying a bit of everything: big air loops, stall turns, aggressive figure eights, 1/2 cuban eights and a of course inverted hovering and moving the heli around inverted. Just great. On a battery change I moved the tail blade with the main blades being fixed, causing the torque tube gear to skip one tooth. May have damaged something there, also I was not able to find any damage. Anyways a great session!

A nice session, despite the wind. After flying only the 500 for almost three months, it took a while to get used to the 450, which is moved around quite a bit by the wind. But I think I am back to enjoying the model and I guess I will stick to the 360mm stretch.

Confidence keeps incresing in inverted flying but still only moving the heli around, no real inverted flying. I guess I am a real slow learner. I am not progressing a lot despite getting a good amount of flights in and being able to do real inverted figure eights and circles on the sim.
I guess it is that I don't push myself: I only fly inverted as long as I feel comfortable and have it 100% under control. As soon as the heli feels somewhat disconnected I flip back to upright immediately. Crashing my 500 last week certainly didn't help in that aspect.

Beautiful weather and lots of time to get some flights in. A bit too windy though. Finally I got to fly the 450 again. First flights after a thorough inspection, changing a lot of bearings and installing a new motor to get rid of vibration issues. The heli flies really smooth now and with the new steel pinion it is considerably quieter.

It flies really nice but is a big change after flying the 500 exclusively for almost 100 flights! The wind affects the 450 a lot, and even more now, that I stretched it to 360mm blades. I guess at some point I will install the 325 blades again and increase headspeed to feel the difference.

I set up and calibrated governor store. Then the first flight with the stretched 450. Wow, it responds fast to pitch around mid stick! I am amazed how quiet the heli is now with the new bearings and the steel pinion. I love how it flies with the bigger blades.
But unfortunately after taking apart the tail and head and switching the bearings, torque tube and main shaft I still have the problem that the heli drifts to the right and still seems to have vibration problems. I guess it is the motor that has gone bad. I will check it as soon as I get the chance. I looked into getting an Align Motor but didn't feel like spending 60 € on the 450 at the moment. Found an offer for the NTM Rotor drive for USD 14 and will give this one another try. Until the vibration issues started after 150 flights I was very happy with it and it always remained completely cool after the flights.

fligth was ok and I continued working on some inverted hovering, flips and rolls. I noted that the heli rolls right during harder positive pitch manouvers. I suspect the heli has some vibration issues. I urgently need to do some bench vibration tests!

worked on side in inverted hovering, flips and rolls. Can't figure out why on the sim I can fly inverted in all orientations and manage inverted circles without issues but in real life I am stuck with tail in and nose in inverted. Seems like sometimes I have trouble seeing the exact orientation on the heli when in an unfamiliar inverted position.

very cold, almost lost all feeling in my fingertips during my first flight. Heli is showing some vibration during spoolup. Have to check logs an perhaps do some vibration analysis. Did some rolls, flips and loops (noted the lack of power in the cold batteries).

First careful flights after installing new tailboom mount and stretch boom. Still flying stock 325 blades. Had to lower tail gain. Got dark quickly and I still have to do more work on the tail gain, but finally CG is spot on.

It was quite dark and cold. Heli drifted to the left in the beginning. I landed, reconnected the battery and then the heli flew as usual. Anyway, I felt rusty the whole first pack. The Second pack was slightly better. I worked on inverted hovering in the wind.

Beautiful weather. Normal flight, worked on flips and Immelmann. When coming back to land I hit the Throttle Hold instead of changing to normal mode! Stupid! Tried to auto it down, but hit the ground a little bit too hard. Got lucky, only one linkage rod bent.

Breaking in the new brushed motor on the Master CP. First flight after rebuilding it (moved it to a new plastic frame and switched tail boom).
Switched motor just as a precaution. Master CP felt horrible after not flying it for months and coming from the 450. Hope it gets better once the motor is broken in.

CRASH: started with low rpm. Tail shaft was not fixed because the tail grub screw was not in the flat spot. Broke the servo horns, one swashplate link and stripped the main gear.
