Was going to go before work, but it started raining just as I was leaving. Had a lunchtime session instead.
It was pretty windy, useful for trying the routines. After 4 months of struggle with the Jack Sparrow flight to music, I've decided to ditch it for something else. I think I've found the music I'm replacing it with and now I have 8 days to plan the routine and practice it. I could skip the music round but I might as well try and put something together.

SM was reasonable with good vis and the wind from behind. Still a lot to work on. FS is getting better, but still need to clean up the final bit. Not easy using batteries with 400 cycles that die towards the end, but there aren't any Desire in the country at the moment. FTM is still only halfway there and even that bit needs refining. Will have to finish that ASAP so I can start practising it.

Wind in the face made things difficult, but good for practice. Had a visitor while I was there. Amazing to see him dropping below the treeline doing manoeuvres. There were 2 of them around and one came in really close.

Awesome long weekend. Friday at Weston, lots of flying and watching the guys practice. Saturday at MK for a BBQ and more flying. Had a few thermal warnings in the afternoon, but I think being at Weston in the heat would have been too much for me. Sunday at Gumley. Not too busy, got lots of flying in. Took an afternoon break and went back for some evening flying to finish it off.

Had to increase the negative pitch to make the collective even. For some reason it isn't reaching the endpoints in any of the flight modes. I may need to redo the setup.
One of of the flights I managed to exit out of battery selection. That meant no warnings and the ESC went into LVC and shut down. Fortunately it was giving a bit of power and I managed to get it back to the field. Never done that before, very odd.
Eventually got too windy to fly.

First was the scale round and I was asked to be a judge, which was interesting. A fun auto contest followed, with me missing the circle completely in one of my attempts. I should have done them inverted, maybe next year.
They finished up with the presentations and I got a trophy and a mug.
The trip home was made in one go in 7 and a half hours, no stops. Awesome weekend, and I'll have to go back next year as they want their trophy back.

Had a very vivid dream that well known pilot broke my last remaining model, v strange. Got to the field early to find out they don't allow flying by competitors before a competition, which I guess is the way it should be.
I was drawn 3rd to fly sets after Dave. I nailed a few of them, while the globes let me down. I also got an extra half roll and a flip wrong in the Cuban 8, but the judges didn't notice. That would normally get a 0.
I started the 2nd round of sets with a very bad rainbow X but I think the wind affected everyone and it turned out to be my best round, 940 out of 1000.
The 3rd round was freestyle. Dave flew before me, but it seemed very disconnected and I couldn't tell what he was doing most of the time. My freestyle is normally my worst due to my slower style, but it still scored well at 937 out of Dave's 1000. It was only just over 3 minutes, so there is a lot of room for improvement.

Final positions were me in 2nd behind Dave with 1878 out of 2000, which I am quite happy with and I think the judges got it right.

I called for Andy and he called for me, which was new for both of us. We both got it wrong once, but the judges were lenient and scored us anyway, which is exactly why this competition is great for learning.

The forecast was for rain, but I decided to go anyway as I'd feel pretty silly if they had the competition and I missed out. I left at 5am and drove through to Aberdeen, and only got lost a few times. Arrived at 1 to clear skies and got some flying in until 8. Met Andie from the forums and a bunch of friendly Scottish people. Bought some sandwiches and had an early night at the hotel.

The morning session was mostly about setting the B up and doing a few routines until a receiver pack wire fatigued and departed from the connector. I salvaged the vertical fin and main gear to fix the A, so flew that for the after lunch session. Considerably windier in the afternoon, didn't stay too long. I'm going to look for another airframe for the B as spares seem to be very expensive.
I'm loving the iCharger at the moment. Lots of information on that colour screen including cell/line IR's. Interesting stuff trying consolidate those figures with how the pack performs.

Had a bit of a chinwag with Martin, Max, Neale and Ewan in the morning. The rain stopped for a bit and I got a few flights in before it came back and we packed up. Met Andrej later and we had a few flights at LMAC in the light drizzle.
I did have one weird thing happen with the VBC though. At one point it completely froze during switch on, with the Mikado logo showing. It wasn't responding to any inputs so I couldn't turn it off. I was about to open it up to disconnect the battery when I remembered the reset hole in the back. Pressed it with a bit of wire and it restarted fine. It all seems OK now and I didn't lose any information.

First few flights were horrible, absolutely no connection with the heli until I realised I'd changed the mainrotor optimisation yesterday. Changed that back to it's previous value and the feel I wanted was back, along with the loss of pitch during full aileron.
After a few flights of changing optim, expo, paddle sim, etc. AK gave me some help and we pinned it down to the cyclic ring value being too low. Moved that up to about 75 and I had the feel around centre i wanted, along with a working pitch range. The cyclic feels very much like the Vortex I had a few years ago, and the heli feels like it should now.
The rest of the day was a blast, couldn't do anything wrong, even had a chat to Duncan and Wayne.

The plan was to drive to Charmouth before the sun came up, but I heard that it was pretty empty on the previous day and that on Sundays everyone disappears after the lunchtime raffle anyway. A 6 hour drive for a few hours of flying suddenly didn't seem very appealing at 4 in the morning, so I went back to sleep.

Had a few flights at Gumley before taking lunch and going off to MK. Ended up having a fantastic afternoon. After a few flights Duncan (and Wayne) turned up, and Woods and I alternated flights with him most of the afternoon. He has a couple of moves that he uses a lot, and I've never been able to figure out exactly what they are, but I started getting a handle on it towards the end.

I finished up as the sun was going down on 28 flights for the day, almost 60 for the weekend. Very happy I didn't go to Charmouth, it couldn't have turned out better. Wayne also confirmed that the bearings were going in the motor, so I need to sort that out this week.

A long, windy day at MK with Tish and the 2 Mikes. The grey skies didn't make it easy, and I almost smashed it into the ground at one point, before blindly reversing the pitch and fortunately having it stop 2 foot short of burying itself.

The flying is coming on nicely. Worked on some low piro flipping and did the usual messing around. I tried a couple of the F3N sets but it was just horrible. I need to spend some time on setup to get it right.
I flew Phil's 470L which was actually pretty good. The skid angle was immediately obvious after takeoff but not noticable in flight. The canopy is pretty wide which makes it quite easy to orient. I've changed my mind and I think they're pretty good, although for new stuff I think the speed and visibility could make it harder than learning on a 700.

Also ordered some thrust bearings, dampers and turnbuckles from Align Trex.

Awful forecast, so a maintenance day for me. First I finished the discharger. Then I retired the orange Yak and moved the Rx to the blue one.
I thought I had a wonky swash on the A but it turned out to be a bent mainshaft. Also found the main grips didn't rotate freely. I opened them up and the thrust bearing cages had turned to iron fillings. Replaced those and it all seems good again. It will be interesting to see if I get more out of the Rx pack now.

Visited the Oxon Heli Collective today after getting an invite from Gary (gazmk2). Drove through early and hung around until Torsten arrived. Watched him fly a couple of flights with a misbehaving receiver before everyone else arrived. Met Bruce, whom I haven't seen in a while.
It's a small field with only one person flying at a time which is a different dynamic to my normal places. If you're not flying, you have to watch and socialise, but it's a friendly crowd.
Got to see the Neil flying the 700x. He's already worn out a set of tail gears, but you can see why when he makes the heli work for a living.
Stayed late with Bruce until it got too dark to fly any more. Drove home and watched some F1. Had a really nice day and very glad I went.

Finally broke 1,500 flights. I'm falling behind on my target of 2k for the year, unless I can something out the bag and do 500 flights in 2 months. Might have to take some leave 😀

Late start and facing an early return for a Halloween party, I decided to skip the long drive to MK. Went to Central instead and had some good flying with the guys once the drizzle stopped. Forecast was for sun all day, but it turned out to be heavily overcast and frikkin' spiders dropping on everything. The charging table was covered and occasionally they would walk across your face while flying. Eventually had enough of the little ba*ds, and went home for lunch.

Very happy with the low HS gov setup, still learning about it but the gov is starting to work for me. Lots of testing to find a decent high HS still. Had to leave early for a fitness assessment, would have liked to stay, especially as Duncan had just arrived.

Was pulling the logs last night trying to find the issue I'm having with A, and found that Rx lead had disconnected from the EC3 on one side. When hanging loose, it was making enough of a connection to keep the VBar going, but it would disconnect when moved around.
Soldered it up and gave it a try over lunch today. Perfect, back to normal!
So the low voltage warnings, Rx reboots, ESC reboots, tail letting go,etc. were all down to a loose lead, only a hair's breadth from disaster 😱
My first decent session in a month.
I've fallen behind quite a bit, so to reach my target for the year, I'm going to have to average 7 flights a day for the next 100 days.

Was enjoying the sunshine along with a few fixies. 3rd flight and the cyclic stops responding. Nothing I could do, just hit TH and watched it go in.
A pushrod on the head was off and the link was split, and there was nothing in the logs. All the servos still work, so it must have been the link splitting. I only replaced those 2 weeks ago and they passed the pre session check, so it must have just broken.
Nothing I could have done any different, I'll just have to accept it happens. I don't have any spares so it'll be expensive this time.

Arrived super early. My genny wouldn't start due to low oil, so I had a drive around looking for a garage.
Everything was going so well, really enjoying the day, loads of flights and talking rubbish. Eventually a reversing chaos got away from me. I had easily enough height to stop and regain control, but I thought I'd take the easy route and hit the rescue. Cue a tail slide into the ground. WTF?
The log doesn't show much, some raised vibration levels, Bailout Start, and me activating throttle hold after the hit.
Basically 2 crashes in 1 month due to me using rescue when I could have easily saved it normally. I think it gives a false sense of security, so I will be removing mine.
The damage isn't too bad, mostly to the tail, and there are the usual summer discounts on this weekend, so hopefully should be back by next weekend.

The heat was having an effect on the Castle 120. One flight with a bit of piro tictoc'ing and it came down with the overtemp warning going off. There's got to be a way of getting those warnings through telemetry, or maybe it's time for a 160.

The dual charger isn't keeping up, making me wait a few minutes between flights so I'm back home to finish the other charger. That should give me 3 high power ports capable of changing the big flight packs at 2C and a 4th port for the Rx battery.

Update: OK, finished the charge case. Had to flip the fans so the air goes in the same direction as the PSU fans, but otherwise an easy job. Charging 2 flight packs at 2C, drawing 46 amps at 24 volts, which is 1,100 watts. Nice!

Managed to stick an empty pack in the heli and had a forced landing after a minute. I'm not sure how I thought it was charged, but it's crazy puffing now. Was down to 2% / 3.1v a cell. Hopefully it'll recover, although I think it's had over 100 decent cycles. No great loss.

Arrived at about 7 after having a clear drive through to Heathrow. Paul and Ethan Williams arrived next, so we had some warm-up flights together. Watching Ethan fly didn't help the nerves, and Paul won Grassroots last year so my expectations started dropping.

Pilot's briefing was at 9:45 and I was picked to do a calibration flight for the judges. I'm not sure if it helped or not, I think my calibration flight of SM and first SM flight were about the same.

The first SM round was reasonably good, no screw-ups and I didn't score zero for anything. My biggest fear was I'd been practising the moves incorrectly, but they all seemed on the money. The VTT8 was pretty bad in the last quarter, but everyone seemed to get it wrong, and they didn't zero me, so not bad at all. The feedback from the judges was mostly general stuff, which essentially means more practice.Jamie gave me some advice on how the practice the VTT8,

After the SMs my nerves settled a bit and I was happy to sit and watch the flying. Gary and Clare from CMHC and David from MK came along to watch, so I had someone to talk to. Also met aussie Dennis from Helifreak, and had a chat to him about the centre-sprung throttle I tried a few months ago.

The FS is where everyone else excelled. Steven Gerrard's opening flight was incredible. It had some sort of pirouetting flower which I just have to try. John Nobb's flight was right on the deck, and everyone seemed at a very high level, even those who struggled with the SM. My flight was much more sedate, and short. My routine normally takes 3:30, but in the moment I rushed the whole thing and landed after 2:55, which resulted in a time penalty.

The FTM round was the usual mishmash of top pilots getting an amazing mix of music and flight styles, and some that didn't seem to make sense. I really didn't know how my Waltz went down, and even my caller said it might be my Achilles Heel 😃 I also changed one of the moves trying to bring the heli back after a drift downwind, which resulted in me repeating a move instead of using the variation.
Fortunately the judges liked it, and it was my highest scoring round at a normalised 803.

Then there was a final round of SM. This didn't go very well, as the wind had picked up and I was trying to implement the feedback I received in round 1. Dave calmed me down a bit mid-routine and it ended well enough.

All in all a day that surpassed my expectations. 789 Out of 1000 puts me straight into the Pro category with a decent margin. Huge thanks to Dave Fisher and Rachel Plant for being my callers.

Early start to take advantage of the morning sun. It turned cold and windy pretty quickly, and a lot of the fixies started showing up. Eventually got too busy, so I left for lunch and went to Larks. Had 2 flights before it started spitting. There's no place to hide at Larks, so I packed up and went back to Gumley. The wind was keeping the fixies off the flightline, so I just kept flying until I felt completely done.
I've done as much as I can for tomorrow and feel pretty good regardless of what the outcome will be.

Sunny, wind in the face. Rolling circle reversal really sucks in the wind. The reversal tends to balloon or drop depending on the wind. Defo needs more practice. The FTM was still a bit behind the music, but was a bit better than last time.

Fresh breeze from front right was a nice direction to work on. SM and FS was OK, but the FTM was horrible. You have time in the first 2 to work at it, and slow it down to make sure you're in the right place, but there's no place to hide in the flight to music. Pretty bad 😠

Windy and right in the face, perfect for weak direction practice. Did a full round, starting with SM. The rolls were pretty bad, very up and down. The VTT8 wasn't bad at all, surprisingly good in the wind, so that sim is paying off.
The piro loop got blown in a bit towards the flightline, so would probably have scored a zero, but the rest was all recognizable.
FS wasn't bad either, although I ran out of time massively. I was slowing things down in the wind to make them accurate, but it was too much. Probably zero for the last 2 moves.
FTM music was OK, kept it smaller in the wind. Got moved around a bit, but quite happy with that.

Drove out to meet Paz and have a few flights at his local field. Nice field, wind from the right. Got to fly his Oxy 3, which flew incredibly well for such a small heli. My flying was OK with the wind on my weak side. One flight really bugged me as it looked like the boom had bent up. After landing a few times and trying to figure it out, I realised the front of the canopy wasn't clipped in, hence the high nose.
Paz flies really well, piros both ways and has quite a different style. All his helis seem incredibly well set up for someone self-taught and who flies on his own. Might have to have another meetup with Gary included, as it seems about half way between us.

Cold with the wind right in the face, not pleasant. Got to try Gary's Skookum bailout, which I disliked intensely. It seemed to do the job OK, but in a very inefficient way.
Enter the hard deck slowly inverted and it does a violent piro flip to get tail-in upright with a loss of height, and then seems to add collective slowly, which means to comes pretty close to the ground, totally unnerving. At least I have a better understanding of how these things work, as I may still pay for the VBar rescue at some point.
Dropped in at LMAC on the way home and had a flight between the fixed wingers. Too busy, so I went to LARCS for a flight. No-one else there, and some traveller kids with dogs hanging around, so just one flight before going home for lunch.

The FS flight was a disaster, all over the place, and I pretty much gave up half way through.
Didn't even bother with a FTM with the fog getting thicker.
Probably the worst direction for wind for me, and the low vis made for a very bad competition practice session. At least I'm getting to know what my limits are, and I made a lot of notes about what did and didn't work. I finished off with 2 flights of non-stop piros, mostly working on the chaos.

Far colder than forecast, but so nice to have a rebuilt heli working exactly as it did before.
I witnessed Andy having a horrible crash with his 700, looks absolutely messed, far worse than my was. Must have bounced 10 metres.
I used the opportunity to ask him some questions about setup for comps, and played with some settings through the VBar Control. Practiced the SMs quite a bit. Scored zero for both my high K factors moves in the first few rounds, but I have a few weeks to get them right.

All in all, a trying weekend, but I learned so much, got so many questions answered and seem to be fitting in with the MK crowd so much better. Even K is warming up to me :)

Jeez, a hard day, just starting to feel better about it now.

Forecast was for the best weekend of the year. Arrived at 9, sat reading in the car until the fog lifted. Started getting a few really nice flights in, and then I ploughed the 700. I think it was blade stall running the lower headspeed as I was coming out of a loop, but a few people said it looked like I saved it and then it dropped again, so I don't know for certain what happened.

It normally takes me at least a week to get things back to flying, 2 or 3 orders from various places and a little personal time to get over a crash, but the guys at MK were incredible, Andy and Dean offering parts off their own helicopters and Dave rebuilding it for me. He had it stripped down in half an hour and made a list of parts. I did a 2 hour trip to Midlands and by the time I got back, he'd cleaned all the parts, ready for putting back. He then rebuilt it and we had it flying before the end of the day. Unbelievable. He makes me laugh though. Absolutely refuses to use pliers on a nut, it has to be a spanner.

Got to watch Duncan fly at the end of the day. The heli just seems so locked (I hate that word, but appropriate in this case). He'll do some hard stop based moves and the heli will just stop, no wobble. His headspeed is just so consistent as well, just perfectly set up. I need to get my heli there. I get nervous flying the higher HS, all that energy just waiting to go wrong but it has to be done.

So, already feeling better about the whole thing, about to go out and get some flying in and sort my head out.

I changed the VBC over to a centre sprung throttle last night and had a quick sim session to test. I didn't like it, but I left it on and had a real session before the work this morning.
Ran the genny and got 5 flights on the 700 and a couple on the 550. First off I realised I don't have zero pitch at collective centre on the 700. It almost hovers at centre stick and drops like a stone inverted. The 550 was better with the collective centred.
In general it wasn't bad, but I just didn't like it. I can see where it would help for F3C style moves like stalls and 4 point rolls, but it just felt a bit weird. I'm going to fix the zero degrees on the 700 an leave it on for a for a few more sessions, but I don't see any benefits yet. My feeling is if do a lot of sticktime, you know where centre is, and you don't it to tell you.

The VBC gov seems to work OK now. I still get high overspeed on a downwind loop, but it's not as bad as before and the underspeed is minimal compared to the Castle. I'm not 100% sold on it yet, but I'll see what it does in better conditions.
It did seem to have a weird overspeed in rampup after autos, but setting a higher autoration % seemed to fix it.
It could possibly be too big a pinion, as the high speeds seem very high.
The forecast looks completely rubbish for the next week.

Rubbish weather, but I wanted to finish the setup on the VBar governor. First flight had massive overspeed on the downwind loop test. It was so bad, I put the Castle gov back on.
Then I changed my mind again, and decided I needed to use the VBar gov, so I put that back, and removed the collective extremes throttle bumps.
The 2nd flight was better, but I got a weird judder on the tail when pulling high collective. It's probably some sort of gov gain issue, but I'd had enough and decided I need to do some more research at home.
Put the Castle gov back on and had a confirmation flight. All is good, still getting the underspeed on downwind loops and rainbows, but at least it's flyable.

Overshot the mark a bit. 7:30am and sitting in the dark at MK.
Edit: 4 Star day. Got loads of flying in, lots of talking rubbish. Saw Matt and tested the 700 he bought from Squeaky. AK sorted the whippiness my 700 tail. Flew with Connor for a bit. Also put Deoxit on my connectors. Huge difference, slide together and apart easily, no more sore fingers. Massively productive day, loving the craic at MK.

Left for lunch and on the way decided the weather wasn't too bad, and went to Gumley instead.
Still patches of snow on the ground, but very little wind. Practised a lot of weakside piros and rolling, even did something that resembled a rolling globe and backwards rolling globe. Pretty surprised at that, but maybe the moon and tides were all in the right place. Bet it doesn't work next time.

Zero wind conditions. Had a bad SM, a good FTM and a bit of fun. The last flight was a low headspeed one and finished with over 40% in the pack. I need to put the damn sensor in this week.
The LARCS field is really good for practice. No-one's around, it's flat and a few minutes closer than Gumley. Gonna start doing my lunchtime flights here. LMAC is going to be too full during lunch once everyone comes out of hibernation.

Zero degrees and no wind. Blue skies with a bit of cloud.
Did some rolling and piro practice, as well as parts of the FTM. A few fixed wingers out, but good clean fun. Really enjoyed that.

Beautifully still in the morning with snow covering the ground. Didn't practice anything specific, just enjoyed flying around. Joined by a few flxed wingers. They didn't fly too much so I carried on. Eventually just got cold through and couldn't go on. Good sesh.

The roads were a bit icy, so I left home after sunrise and arrived at 9 along with Dean. It was a productive day, although it felt a bit more like hard work as I spent most of the time trying to get the FTM and SM right.
I'm going to have to drop the 4 point tictocs from SM. I just can't get them consistent, even in practically zero wind. If you don't get the first movement perfect, it moves up or down. As the height settles, you get something not quite right and it starts wandering and looking very messing.
The piro rainbow X reversal works OK, nice and high K factor too. I just need to choose 2 new moves to replace the tictocs.
Today was the first time I used headphones to listen to the music as I flew. Although most of it fits, there are parts that just don't time right and others that I'm not good enough to do IRL.
2 Months to go and I still need to figure the FS routine as well. This is turning into bloody hard work.

2 flights of modified FTM and 2 SM.
I like the new bits replacing the half piro flips, but I still think the funnelling at the end goes on too long. I'm also tempted to make the last drop to ground unpowered. Will have to test if I consistently have enough energy to auto it.
The first SM was pretty decent, although almost lost it on the rolling reversals and the piro loops were rubbish.

Grey and cold. 1 FTM, 1 SM, and practising bits and pieces. The piro reversing globe was rubbish when I tried counting the piros, but OK when I just forgot about them and did the move. The 4 point tictocs (+ reversing) would have scored a zero on the first try, but once I slowed them down, they were OK. Warming up is defo going to be an issue. Maybe I can have a quick practice before each comp.

Went to LMAC as I knew the cold weather would keep the flightline clear. Windy and blue skies, used the mitt every flight. The 550 has been retired for a while so I converted 2 single packs over last night to have 4 for the 700, and the charger kept up OK this time.
Practised FTM, vertical tictoc 8, piro globe and rolling circuits. The first flights were so bad, I was having 2nd thoughts about competing. The rest were much better, so either it's a warmup thing or I'm still adjusting from the 550. I guess we'll see.

Got here at 8, hoping to beat the rain. I didn't. Sitting doing sim on my own, so sad :) The rain seems to be clearing, so hopefully will get a few flights in.
Rain stopped around 10. Flew the 550 loads as there was still a bit of drizzle coming down. Eventually I had an engine failure, managed to get it down without any damage, thanks to the opti-guard. The connector on the ESC had desoldered. It's had 100s of flights, so maybe corrosion or worn connectors generating heat. Either way, I'll replace the connectors instead of just resoldering them.
Flew the 700 for a bunch of flights, but the charger wasn't keeping up. Need to get a 2nd charger, but too expensive with PSU.
Good flying though, practicing piro globes, vertical tictoc 8, FTM.
Update: Just got round to resoldering and cleaning, and noticed the blades are stuffed. Flagging as a crash.

Terrible sets, definitely going to concentrate on the 700 and leave the 550 in the car from now on. Vertical tictoc 8 was pretty bad, although it can be saved. 4 point tictocs are OK, gonna put them back in the list. Did a FTM, still need to rework the last third. Lots to do.
Gonna swap 2 of the single packs over so I have 4 x 700 packs. Less flying with the longer charge time, but maybe it'll be OK.

The forecast was for a good flying day, and as the rest of the year looked pants, I asked to swap a half day for next week.
Quite busy at the club, with 10 others sitting round drinking tea. Fortunately cold enough for them to stay in the clubhouse while I flew. Absolutely loving the NEO, it's changed my style a lot. Just so reliable and consistent, everything is faster and nearer the ground. Loving it.
Lots of work on my weakside piros, drills, weakside funnels, etc. A really good session.

The fixed OWB didn't last very long, will have to buy some complete hubs instead. On the up side, I was forced to complete the setup of the NEO on the 700, and got my first flights with it. Such a nice day, so I took lunch early before the wind got up. First had to wait 20 minutes outside the gate while the farmer loaded his sheep. Then I only got one flight because I forgot to charge the 700 batteries last night. It was a good flight though, a bit of funneling practice.
Had an interesting chat to one of the members, it sounds like there might be a bit of fun and games at next week's AGM. I think I might attend just to see what's going on.

Little session all on my own. The wind was nowhere near as bad as it looked. Lots of rolling and piro practice. It feels like I've stepped up a level, so I'm looking forward to the coming year. Tx was practically dead and the genny ran out of fuel just at the right time to leave me with 2 packs as the light was dying. After a morning of rain, I knew it would clear and the field would be empty. Turned out better than I expected, with a warm sun coming through.
Did a few FTM routines without the music, and my flights are almost a minute longer than the music would have been. That tells me I'm flying beyond my natural speed and I need to come up with a different routine, which is probably why they are so messy.
Got some flights on the 700 as well. I need to turn the agility up so that it matches the 550, as it just feels far too slow. Will do that on Saturday at CMHC.

Went to LARCS for a few flights before the sun went down. One fixed wing pilot out, so we had to alternate flights. Not great when he's taking 15 minutes glider flights Then when he left, I was worried about keeping an eye out for travellers, so not a great session. Pretty cold too with nowhere to hide during sessions. I'm not sure about joining this club next year, but I'll try a a few more sessions.

Nice little session with Mark before going to do some weekend work. Flew a couple of FTM on the 550, very messy. Then tried the same on the 700 with the same result. The difference between sim and IRL is massive, and doing a FTM is impossible to keep up with, so I may have to choose something slower or slow the music down.

I had to paint one of the benches as part of club maintenance.
I had a few decent flights and then AK was kind enough to have a look at the hum issue on the 700. He's happy that it's fine, so I'm OK to start putting flights on it.

Flew the 550 at first. After a few flights I lost drive down low and the head speed bled off. Put it down in the long grass with no HS. Looks like the OWB completely let go after all the tictocs. Skids and blades bust, the rest looks OK.

The 700 is flying nicely, had a good chat to AK again, picking up a few tips and confidence flying the thing.
Duncan's dad, Wayne, come over as well and told me the 700 has a buzz. What a nice guy. We had our first conversation for about 15 minutes and he suggested a couple of things I could do, as the buzz will damage the heli and something will break.

One of the younger members was throwing a 700 around like he's been flying his whole life, a bit depressing really, although I didn't actually enjoy his style. Flew the 700 a couple more times, but didn't want to push it, so went home in a good mood. Not a bad weekend.

A bit late this morning, Mark and Gary already flying. The skies stayed grey all morning and even got a bit darker later. So much for XC's sunny skies, BBC Weather got it right though. Good to see Gary flying again, no skills lost there. Neale's flying seems to have made a massive jump. Flight after flight on the 700, piro flipping and down low with various orientations. Very impressive.

I finally got some proper flights on the 700. I think I'm going to have to stop flying the 550 and concentrate on the big one, as there is a difference in feel, enough to make things balloon or drop in the wrong places.

All in all a good session, although by the time I went for breakfast, the cafe was already cleaning up. Could have had a bacon sarnie, but I was so disappointed, I didn't bother. Going home to solder a shorter harness on the 700 and fetch a bigger ammo box.

Intended to be there at 7, but a bit of fog delayed things until 8. Tried working on some freestyle but the 550 just isn't keeping up. I'm seriously considering getting a 700. Mark was good enough to let me try his and there's a world of difference between it and my worn out 550. It might be a case of me needing to change dampers and links, etc, but it does fly better. I have to consider how serious I am about competition.
We had a few para-motors come in. They struggled landing and taking off in the low wind conditions, especially after a heavy breakfast at the cafe.
