A good session today trying to get circles nailed but kept losing forward momentum. Still a improvement and got a few good ones in. Had some backwards flying practise too but the sky went dark very quick towards the end and had trouble with orientation. Whilst doing some pie dishes I had a LVC and just made it back to the landing pad in time!

I really felt like I was getting back into it today after my recent year and a bit without flying.

Shockingly after sliding a Turnigy battery into my Logo and tightening the strap it burst into smoking, but luckily it didn't actually go up in flames. I managed to pull it out and toss it across the grass so no damage was done to the heli. It was a slightly tight fit sliding the battery in (no puffing though as this was a new pack having only flown 1 to 2 flights, but the plastic frame needs a gentle sand just to make it slide in a little looser), but I don't believe that was the reason, and I'm still extremely surprised that it happened. In the moment it was absolutely shocking, so a very lucky result to have no damage.

I tried flying a few different moves today including several attempts an pirouetting loops, a few of which were starting to form not actually that bad, but as usual a few heart wobbling moments throughout todays flying for me, but you've got to push I suppose if you want to give yourself a chance at getting better.

Richard was very good about 1 1/2 years ago around the time he started to fly his 700 size helis, but now after seeing him fly today it's obvious that he's progressed to being...... not trying to make his head swell any bigger...... but it's simply correct to say a brilliant pilot.

I'm looking forward to next time and what a great day indeed.

Not a very good forecast so decided to stay local. Went to Larcs for an early session before meeting Gary at Gumley. Had a great morning flying with him and the usual fixie group. He managed to smoke a Turnigy pack while putting it into the Logo. Never seen one go up like that before.
Eventually the rain arrived and we called it a day.

Prepared the car to go to WHFC the previous evening, but just didn't feel like the drive when I woke up.
Went to LMAC and spent the morning with Scott and Kev. With all the other members having gone to RIAT, it was just us swapping flights and having a laugh. Eventually it was time to go to MK, but I couldn't be bothered with packing up and driving all that way while Gumley was empty.
Eventually a bit of drizzle came in and I took a break to watch the F1.
Went back to Gumley afterwards for a fantastic evening of flying on my own.

Was supposed to go to WHFC funfly, but with a variable forecast of wind and rain I decided to stay local. A good thing as after 3 flights the rain came down and I packed up. Went home to watch the Qualis and try and figure out the FTM. It's taking more practice than any of my other rounds and will probably be the one I drop, so it's pretty frustrating.
Went out in the afternoon and took the laptop onto the flightline. Played all the music I've gathered just to see what worked and felt good to fly to. Might do the same again tomorrow just to see if it still works.

My first session at this club in over two years maybe, doesn't seem that long ago though.

I also had three flights on my CAP 232 today which was fun too.

Overall a very nice day out and some okay flying from me, but too basic really, and not feeling very confident for most of the session. Need to get out more and practice more.

During my last flight my dad shouted out that I had to stand behind the new fence LOL. Strange because I thought I'd been standing near to the far edge of the mowed grass 'D' (situated in front of this new fence) previously, but perhaps not, my memory fails me :)

Anyway about this new fence and the rule that comes with it, which I've been told came into play a few months ago. It's about waist height and runs along the flight line. The old tall netted fence behind the pilots is still there of course to protect everything behind the pilots, but this new short fence is supposed to protect the pilots toes and ankles from being chopped in the unfortunate event that somebody taxis their plane towards the flight line and fails to stop. There might be other reasons too, but I'm not sure yet.

I was quite surprised to find myself distracted by this new short fence, although I'm sure I'll get used to it after a few more flights. I think it was simply my peripheral vision that wasn't used to seeing a boundary immediately in front of me, which if I wasn't so short (5' 5") would have been less noticeable.

The weather was really nice with the wind a little strong at first but dying down later, especially during the last 1/3 of the session.

Near miss! After practicing a lot of inverted forward flight I wanted to mix in some inverted backwards flying. At one point I complete lost orientation and I was not very high. Luckily I managed to activate rescue and it worked like a charm! Thanks MSH for saving my heli!

I always thought I would not be able to hit the right switch when it counts - I am glad I was wrong!
