I was a guest at a local flying field. It was really nice. I also wanted the opinion of the other pilots regarding my vibrations on the T-Rex 500 but I didn't even get it into the air. During spool-up it almost tipped over.
I will change all the bearings in the head and will have another look at the FBL-System and whether the wires are too tense.

I changed the tail blades on the 500 but it still has severe vibrations. They are not visible but the heli banks strongly to the left and the log files are full of extreme vibration messages.
With the 450 I did mostly inverted training.

The 450 flew well, but the 500 definitively has vibration issues. It is unflyable at this point.

I think I fixed the vibration issues last night and activated the governor. It flew decent, but it did not reach the headspeed I wanted. At night it turned out it has governor glitches. Will have to figure out what to do there.

Than I did some nice flights on the 450. I put it to the higher headspeed and thundered over the field. Really exciting! Did some loops as high and big as I dared. Then I made some simulated autorotations by switching to the lowest headspeed and bringing it down aggressively from really high up. Due to the sound when flaring I think the headspeed would have been good for a auto landing.

Still vibrations. Almost crashed it when I changed to a higher headspeed and the heli banke really violently. Managed to switch to low headspeed and land it controlled.

Went to a field near my father's house. Really nice location and it was nice to show my father the heli flying and not just standing in our living room. Kept it very civilized, though. Did not want to show how fast things can go south ...

Finally got to remaiden the 500, after it took me ages to repair it after my first heavy crash. I miss my old blades, the new spinblades have a crazy chirping sound! Other than that the heli flew good, although I took it super slow to check out if everything was holding up ok.
I am really happy my 500 bird is up in the air again! 😀

I just did not feel connected to the heli today. I had a bad feeling flying inverted so I just kept it upright. Did some circles with higher headspeed though (3000 rpm). Will have to check vibration logs to make sure everything is ok at that headspeed.

Had something strange happening. In forward flight I pulled back elevator to make a half backflip to transition into inverted backwards flight. When the heli was vertical I gave strong negative collective to maintain speed and continued the flip. When the heli was almost inverted the tail suddenly turned 180°! Really scary. I am still not sure whether I did not have enough tail gain or what happened there.

The grass is getting very high on the field. If I ever crash it will be a hassle finding the heli ;-)

Other than that a nice session, just having fun and doing some inverted training and flips and rolls. No big advances there. I think I need to spend some time on the sim or try to risk a little bit more. But with my T-Rex 500 being still weeks from being repaired (no time for wrenching) I am afraid of standing there without a working heli.

Really nice flights, some flips, inverted circles and just a really good feeling. Change the rear torque tube umbrella gears worked great and applying Dry Fluid Gear Lube made the heli quite a bit quieter.

Visibility was not very good. The torque tube gear is definitively damaged. Heard the teeth jump during an aggressive pitch pump. 😱

Finally a session with enough time to really enjoy the flying. The weather was just great and I just loved the flying. No specific training on anything but just enjoying a bit of everything: big air loops, stall turns, aggressive figure eights, 1/2 cuban eights and a of course inverted hovering and moving the heli around inverted. Just great. On a battery change I moved the tail blade with the main blades being fixed, causing the torque tube gear to skip one tooth. May have damaged something there, also I was not able to find any damage. Anyways a great session!

A nice session, despite the wind. After flying only the 500 for almost three months, it took a while to get used to the 450, which is moved around quite a bit by the wind. But I think I am back to enjoying the model and I guess I will stick to the 360mm stretch.

Confidence keeps incresing in inverted flying but still only moving the heli around, no real inverted flying. I guess I am a real slow learner. I am not progressing a lot despite getting a good amount of flights in and being able to do real inverted figure eights and circles on the sim.
I guess it is that I don't push myself: I only fly inverted as long as I feel comfortable and have it 100% under control. As soon as the heli feels somewhat disconnected I flip back to upright immediately. Crashing my 500 last week certainly didn't help in that aspect.

Beautiful weather and lots of time to get some flights in. A bit too windy though. Finally I got to fly the 450 again. First flights after a thorough inspection, changing a lot of bearings and installing a new motor to get rid of vibration issues. The heli flies really smooth now and with the new steel pinion it is considerably quieter.

It flies really nice but is a big change after flying the 500 exclusively for almost 100 flights! The wind affects the 450 a lot, and even more now, that I stretched it to 360mm blades. I guess at some point I will install the 325 blades again and increase headspeed to feel the difference.

Really bad crash!

The weather was so great I absolutely wanted to get two quick flights in. Besides being in a rush it went well the first pack and the second one I worked on rainbows and they were coming along very good. I made one rainbow and when the heli came out of it perfectly I just added another one. That one also went very smooth. It came out not 100% perfect but I just kept going and tried a third one in a row. By that time the heli was not that high any more and also not in the middle of the field. While doing the inverted stop I noticed that the heli had banked a little bit more. Since I was not in the middle of the field anymore I decided to correct although not feeling comfortable in doing so. While doing it I corrected in the wrong direction, so the heli went into a steep angle and without much height to compensate for errors it went in sideways, blades first. To make it even worse I was a millisecond late on the throttle hold:

- one blade cut in half, one blade broken 😠
- DFC-Head Damaged 😠
- main gear stripped (only a couple of teeth)
- at least one servo gear stripped
- One link missing
- Landing skids broken

What a bummer!

I got to the field with plenty of time, the weather was perfect: blue sky, sun coming up behind me, already quite warm. Normally I fly almost against the sun in that field in the mornings, but today I walked all the way accross the field to have the sun in my back and it was a good decision.

It was just such a great feeling, I hadn't had such a great time flying in a long time. 😃

Very windy. The heli was suprisingly stable but the wind would carry it far away durings flips and loops. Did some inverted training in the wind but not much fun.

Longer flight time because I flew at low RPM the first half of the flight. The ESC did not get overly warm but I have to figure out, whether I am still in an acceptable range, since my ESC does not have active freewheeling and my throttle percentage was quite low.

grey sky but no wind. Inverted figure eights (nose in) are getting more and more comfortable. Managed three consecutive front flips that were quite stable.
While loading my packs, one developed a considerable cell drift in cells 1 and 6. No cell drift during flight though. I will have a close eye on that one.
