Replaced the head dampeners and regreased the thrust bearings. DFC ball links needed replacing on inspection which goes to show how quickly the DFC head parts wear.

Not much going on flight-wise but got a half-decent overspeed in.

Just went to test out my new HK cheapy 4K SJ8000 camera. Performs well for the money but will use a reduced FOV for my next time at the field as the heli still looks too far out. Handles the sun, etc really well.

Had some great fun today tried out some bits for a routine. The music may not quite be the right tempo for it :-) Had to save the heli twice today.

Had a go at pirouetting the wave at each segment again but still not totally comfortable. I'll persist with those though. Attempted to rotate elevator tic tocs on the aileron axis but it was rushed and not pleasing to the eye TBH.

Tried the NEO rescue again and it reverses the rudder either way you go. I assume to stop momentum faster and rescue quicker.

Got see Dean maiden the Protos Max V2 which he seemed pleased with. After dismantling his Vcontrol for the 6th time this week I think he has his stick tensions where he likes them too.

He put on a stunning last flight worthy of a high GR Freestyle placement and rounded off a nice session.

I got to try Rich's Protos again with a bit more confidence this time.

Also as it came up on Addicts a couple of times I think I have dispelled the rather stupid myth of how nicely the NEO rescue performs a half piroflip. Starting with a slow inverted pirouette and then hitting rescue the heli is over way too rapidly to even remotely ressemble said move.

Anyway, good session and the temp did rise to a reasonable level nearer the end.

Gale force winds in the face and cold on the hands but pleased with the flying. Tried out some routine bits and then spent the next 2 flights on Piro Waves which again were ok considering the conditions.

What a great session. Loads of people and banter, overspeeds, Pete cooked a Scorpion motor and did an amazing auto on a very uneven ploughed field. Dean was stepping up his game and I was just milling around but got a go on Pete's 690SX

Had another go with the piro wave. Hopefully it will gel soon enough.

Tried out the Nick Tocs but failing on the return. Some part of that was cold thumbs, some brain-freeze but only just started so there's room for improvement. Tried a few other little additions to the flight so just picking my battles at the moment.

Dean pulled off some great revolving aileron Tic-Tocs so looks like sim time is paying off for both of us this weekend :-)

Tried out my hat cam in 720P with zoom but it cut too much of the FOV so won't be using it again. Also set the EL too high (as my videos were pretty dark) and this gave some very bright/white footage so dropped it back down.

Would've been a 5 star session but too much tuning going on with the Vcontrol boys today which kind of puts you off your stride :-)

Finished off the session with a pub lunch with the massive :-)

Turned up at the field to meet my bestest, best buddy Dean, who's one of my besties and it started showering but hung about till it cleared. Glad to get 3 flights in and watch my best mate put on a great display of aerobatics with his new, blue Vcontrol.

Miserable sky but dry and not too cold.

Suffering a little from a hangover but muddled through 2 flights on my 700 before having another go with Rich's 550 and tried out the NEO rescue system. Not the best sky for it but glad I instinctively flicked the right switch to activate rescue.

Had a flight on Rich's LOGO 550 with added NEO and V control. Using what I believe to be the out-of-the-box 550 settings the heli was docile and predictable. To my thumbs there was no noticable difference between a NEO and a VBAR (which is not necessarily a bad thing) but I'm sure that under the hood it is on another level with regards to sensors, etc.

A fair few times during the flight I found I was hitting the collective stops both ways but apparently that is down to having big thumbs. Other then that it was an enjoyable flight and good to get my thumbs working again.

Had a nice session and pleased with the V4 update so far. Not much in the way of wind today but the hands were suffering from the cold.

Out of the box I have done the following:

GOV

Reduced default gov gain to 3%

ROTOR

Expo -30%
Deadband 22uS

Agiliy 55%
Style 57%
Main gain to 46%
Rotor P gain 43%
Elevator D gain 65%
Cyclic response 50% (for preference).

TAIL

Expo -45%
Deadband 22uS
Piro rate 550*
Tail gain 41%
CCW stop gain by 65%
CW stop gain by 110%

Think that's it so far. It flew well out of the box using the style/ heli wizard and the work on the tail algorithm really shows.

On V3 I had to reduce the Pirouette I gain from default to get a smooth pirouette but in V4 this option has been removed as it is definitely not required.

Got to the field to test out the new V4 firmware on my VX1n.

Some noticable improvements to the governor. I only changed the default gov gain to 5% and it performs well with a more powerful feeling motor and consistent headspeed from start to finish of the the flight.

The default tail is much softer then on previous versions which I think was needed as you got loads of people complaining about wags on stops. I always thought it better to be softer and the user can then increase gains/ stop gains to get the desired feel. Only needed to increase the CW stop gain and the piro rate to my preferred 550*

For some reason the elevator felt much fast to come in then it did on V3 using the same settings so I will start adjusting the agility/ style to suit.

Really need a less overcast, calmer day and warmer hands to see what's really going on but out of the box it's a much better package.

One great flight in the sunshine then the fog descended which made for an interesting last 2 flights. Camera battery packed up too so the theatrical disappearing and reappearing of the heli throught the fog was missed.

Tried the new Zippy packs for the first time and they were fine. Waiting to cycle them a few times to see if there's any extra ooomph to be gained. After that it'll be a case of longevity before I invest in any future packs.

Amazing weather and a great session at the field. The chirping and tail vibe were related and dropping the gov gain to 5% cured both issues. I can only put it down to the drive train being smoother than on the original airframe. On inspection during the repair some of the bearings were definitely in need of replacement.

Down to one flight pack at the moment but now have another set of opti packs and HK zippys on order ready for next weekend.

I have changed back to the 9.33 gear ratio and the chirping of the motor remains. Will have to experiment with gov gains on the next session although this chirping only appeared after the crash. Also some wag has developed on the tail. I suspect the TT bearings may have moved up the TT so will strip down in the week.

Other than that it was a good turnout today and lots of nice flying to watch.

Proper maiden flight and a second flight. Quick session as I'm off picking pumpkins but hopefully get out for 2 more later.

Had to lower gov gain by 4% as I'm using the 800MX with the 850MX gearing. Other than a reduction of 5% pack capacity the heli performed great and pulled nicely.

Suppose it was about time. Botched a tick tock square and although I gave all the right inputs to get it back it was too low, bogged the motor and in she went :-(

The head took the brunt and is pretty mullered and lost a couple of links and the boom snapped off clean at the boom block with the tail assembly untouched. So far all else looks ok but I'll have a better look later.

Might be a good opprtunity to buy the 700 FL head that I have been eyeing for a while.
