Gumley first thing until I realised I was supposed to meet Marc at Larcs. Had a BBQ for lunch and watched Matt put a few good flights in. It got busy after a while, which was nice to see, but not really my thing. Back to Gumly for a few cups of tea and a bit more flying.

Tried 6S on the B machine which actually turned out pretty good. 8 minute flights of gentle 3D at 1140 RPM, will definately try that again on a less windy day.
Had a cell go one one of the Zippys, so had to dispose of that pack. I got over 150 decent flights out of it though.
Felt very disconnected on the initial flights after 2 weeks of not flying, but got back into into after the slow flights.

Raining in the morning so took the opportunity to change the front TT gearbox and auto-rotation gears. The rain stopped after lunch and I made it to Gumley just after one o'clock. Only a handful of people around, and they left early, so I had the field to myself for the afternoon. Worked on some weaknesses and had a bit of a chinwag with a few visitors.

The flying is coming on nicely. Worked on some low piro flipping and did the usual messing around. I tried a couple of the F3N sets but it was just horrible. I need to spend some time on setup to get it right.
I flew Phil's 470L which was actually pretty good. The skid angle was immediately obvious after takeoff but not noticable in flight. The canopy is pretty wide which makes it quite easy to orient. I've changed my mind and I think they're pretty good, although for new stuff I think the speed and visibility could make it harder than learning on a 700.

Woke up later than I wanted but made it to the field by 7:40. Had the keys for the genny which was nice. Spent the morning exchanging flights with Bob before everyone else arrived.
The flying was OK. I don't have any goals for the year and the flying seems to reflect that. Mostly just messing around. not doing anything in particular. I really need to get my arse in gear.

Went to Larcs but decided it was too cold/windy to hang around in the open so drove through to Gumley. Had a few flights before it got busy and I went back to Larcs. Quite a few around and they had a BBQ. Stayed for a few hours until everyone packed up and I went back to Gumley for a few more.

Misty, then blue skies and sun, followed by grey and dark. Had a pretty good session, but the cold just went through me, even with the mitt and thermals. Sunday should be better.
Oh, finally got rid of the old Opti 30 pack. I haven't used it for a while, tried it today and was getting sag within the first minute.

Raining all day, so another setup session to get ready for the week. Reworked the head links on the A to get a purer setup. Double-checked everything on the B and made some changes to the tail links and setup. Updated all the settings from the NEOs into the spreadsheet. Also ordered some thrust bearings, dampers and turnbuckles from Align Trex.

Awful forecast, so a maintenance day for me. First I finished the discharger. Then I retired the orange Yak and moved the Rx to the blue one.
I thought I had a wonky swash on the A but it turned out to be a bent mainshaft. Also found the main grips didn't rotate freely. I opened them up and the thrust bearing cages had turned to iron fillings. Replaced those and it all seems good again. It will be interesting to see if I get more out of the Rx pack now.
Raining all day tomorrow, so will finish setup on the B. Hopefully some mid-week flying next week.

Started off at LMAC. Was a bit busy with planes, left early.
Wasn't sure where to go after that. Felt like a bit of company but still with opportunity to fly big, so made the drive through to MK. Turned out to be perfect. Sun was out, fairly warm and no wind. Just myself, Dave and Phil flying helis. Flew Kev's quad again and crashed it. Good session.

Met Paz in the morning at MK. Hoped he could get to see some of our better fliers but no-one arrived for ages.
After a week of sim instead of IRL flying, I struggled to get connected to the heli. It worked itself out after almost 10 flights and I got the connection back and then I felt I'd got a nice progression for the week.
Drizzled lightly most of the day, not a great session.

Decided to try CMHC in the morning. Nice to see everyone again but flying with the sun in the wrong place isn't very easy.

Went for lunch and then went on to LMAC. Was on my own for a few hours, but what a pleasure flying with the sun from behind and a having a heated shed to hide in.

Decent forecast and nothing to fly, so I quickly glued the Yak back together and charged a few batteries before work. Blue skies and sun but very cold wind. The VBar is definitely an overkill on this plane, good fun though.

Good fun with the Yak until I put it in nose-first and the engine mount broke off. Took a break to go to Central, but Dave was the only one there and on the way out. Went back to LMAC and had a couple of flights on the A. Was chatting to Kev while waiting for a flight and the heli started smoking. I thought it was a lipo but turned out the be the new servo I put in the replace the previous burned out one. Either there is something wrong with the VBar or I haven't set the endpoints properly and it's burning out when it stalls.

Took a half day based on the forecast and it turned out to be foggy all morning. Got loads of flights on the Yak. Tried the gyro stabilisation which can be useful for one handed take-offs but it tends to do weird things at low speeds with high bank angles. Not a bad morning.

No flying, servo stopped working. Went to it's endstop on the bench and stayed there. Unplugged, tried to move by hand and it's stuck solid. Casing was bloody hot as well.

I think that's the 2k for the year blown then. There's no way I could get another 240 flights in 25 days, especially with the bad weather forecast for next weekend. It was a good try though.😀

Lovely morning of still air and perfect vis. Not many people around so stayed for the morning, went home for lunch and came back in afternoon again. A glider went down near Lubenham, so the roads were blocked off and the air ambulance and police helicopters were out.

I didn't feel like like flying, but as everything was ready, I worked on the basics. I think this machine needs more pitch and I need to optimise the governor settings.
The mitt warmer work OK. Potentially it was doing such a good job, I didn't notice, but it doesn't give off a lot of heat. Gonna velcro the heater as it slips down during use.

Nice enough weather. Definitely not enjoying the A machine as much as the B. Will have to take a decent day to try and figure it out. The servo's defo draw more. I get double out of the B.

A few tentative flights on the A machine over lunch. Doesn't fly as well as the B, seems to lose headspeed in continuous rolling and certainly makes more blade noise with obvious slowing. But it was very nice to fly again. You can't be wrenching when the weather is this good, defo worth having 2 helis.

Bugger! Was on the 5th pack during a lunchtime session with a fairly strong wind from behind, and I got the timing wrong and the wind just hammered it into the ground.
Defo the worst crash I've had on a 700. I've never had a frame go before and I've never seen a 700 mainshaft bent, and this has both plus all the usual stuff. Even my Opti 50 pack got a bit squashed. It basically needs everything, so it'll be cheaper to find another airframe.

Great day at MK. Left home in the dark and got back in the dark. The weather in the morning was perfect, crisp, blue skies and no wind. Everyone seemed in a really good mood and we got loads of flying and and shooting the breeze in. Dave lost his quad after doing a huge climb-out. I had my eye on it the whole time, and I didn't lose it. It simply got so small that it disappeared from sight. I flew Phil's quad LOS for one flight at the end of the day. Very weird with the lights on the front instead of the back. I tried FPV as well, but all I could see was sky and I crashed it after about 10 seconds.

The cold really wiped me out. Very sleepy on the way home, just poured the food in when I got back and fell asleep on the couch.

The forecast for the day looked amazing. I tried to get an invite to Parkhall MHC, but unfortunately Ross wasn't able to make it and wasn't sure anyone else would be there.

I decided to hit Larcs early and take it from there. The weather was perfect. Very light breeze, blue skies and not too cold. Got 21 flights all on my own before I went for lunch. Almost went to MK for the afternoon session, but decided it wasn't worth the drive with only 3 hours between opening time and sundown. Went back to Larcs and had more flying until some para-motors arrived. They were giving tandem flights so I just stayed out of the way until the sun went down.

Now at home and very pleased to find I did 34 flights, with a total of 3 hours actual flying time. What an awesome day!

Nice little session as it got darker. Totally forgot that the sun goes down early, so I didn't get as long as I was hoping. Lots of piro drills with reversals. Stayed an extra half hour in the gloom while the batteries charged for tomorrow.
