Mon, 31 Oct 2016 13:00

Leicester Model Aero Club

RichardV

2 flights

Had a couple of batteries still charged from yesterday. Really nice conditions, warm and bright. Wish I could have stayed.

Sun, 30 Oct 2016 10:30

Oxon Helicopter Collective

RichardV

10 flights

Visited the Oxon Heli Collective today after getting an invite from Gary (gazmk2). Drove through early and hung around until Torsten arrived. Watched him fly a couple of flights with a misbehaving receiver before everyone else arrived. Met Bruce, whom I haven't seen in a while.
It's a small field with only one person flying at a time which is a different dynamic to my normal places. If you're not flying, you have to watch and socialise, but it's a friendly crowd.
Got to see the Neil flying the 700x. He's already worn out a set of tail gears, but you can see why when he makes the heli work for a living.
Stayed late with Bruce until it got too dark to fly any more. Drove home and watched some F1. Had a really nice day and very glad I went.

Finally broke 1,500 flights. I'm falling behind on my target of 2k for the year, unless I can something out the bag and do 500 flights in 2 months. Might have to take some leave 😀

Full of fixies. Had a few flights and left.

Sat, 29 Oct 2016 09:30

Central Model Helicopter Club

RichardV

8 flights

Late start and facing an early return for a Halloween party, I decided to skip the long drive to MK. Went to Central instead and had some good flying with the guys once the drizzle stopped. Forecast was for sun all day, but it turned out to be heavily overcast and frikkin' spiders dropping on everything. The charging table was covered and occasionally they would walk across your face while flying. Eventually had enough of the little ba*ds, and went home for lunch.

Perfect day. Raining in the morning, took the wife for breakfast. Skies cleared around 12, too late for the fixies, so when i got there I had a field to myself. 5 hours of flying in the sun, awesome!

Sat, 15 Oct 2016 08:00

MK Heli Club

RichardV

22 flights

Arrived at 8, managed to overload the genny charging 4 stick packs, Tx and Rx batteries all at once. No wind and sunny in the morning, so had some great flying. Everyone else started arriving at 10. Very happy with the low HS gov setup, still learning about it but the gov is starting to work for me. Lots of testing to find a decent high HS still. Had to leave early for a fitness assessment, would have liked to stay, especially as Duncan had just arrived.

Tue, 11 Oct 2016 12:30

Leicester Area Radio Control Society

RichardV

4 flights

Very little wind and almost warm. A very nice little session before going back to work.

Tue, 11 Oct 2016 08:30

Leicester Model Aero Club

RichardV

9 flights

Took a half day and went to LMAC early. Too foggy to fly initially, so stayed in the shed doing sim and listening to RCHN. Got some decent flights in before the Tuesday crowd arrived, so I left for Larcs.

Mon, 10 Oct 2016 13:00

Windier than expected, and cold. Not much fun

Sun, 9 Oct 2016 11:00

9 flights

Went to Larcs for a flights. Just about to leave for MK when Glenn, Matt and Rich turned up so I ended up staying for the afternoon. Rich put his turbine in a tree, we had a BBQ and burned some LiPos 😀

Sun, 9 Oct 2016 08:00

Leicester Model Aero Club

RichardV

5 flights

Cold this morning, so went to Gumley for a few hours before the fixies arrived in force.

Sat, 8 Oct 2016 08:30

Leicester Model Aero Club

RichardV

7 flights

Spent 4 hours in the shed going through all the settings and double-checking the pitch setup on the head of each heli.
Followed by a couple of flights trying to figure out exactly what the governor settings do and how they match up with how I believe they work.
Not much flying but learnt a lot today, good session.

Mon, 3 Oct 2016 16:00

Leicester Model Aero Club

RichardV

4 flights

Thought I'd get a couple of flights in at Gumley as the sun went down, but some fixies had the same idea. Left after a few flights.

Sun, 25 Sep 2016 08:30

Leicester Model Aero Club

RichardV

5 flights

Started getting some flights in and then they decided to mow the grass. Hung around for a bit and then left for MK.

Sat, 24 Sep 2016 12:30

MK Heli Club

RichardV

7 flights

Really nice session, even though it was very windy. Had a good look at Phil's 700X, spoke a lot of rubbish and had a good fly. It all feels right again.
Had AK look over my settings for the NEO and give me some advice.
Alessio crashed his 700 after the tail let go. Looks like a pin removed itself from forward TT gears.

Sat, 24 Sep 2016 08:45

Central Model Helicopter Club

RichardV

7 flights

Met Colin for a early start. Pretty windy but nice to get out. Mark, Max and Dave arrived later and I finished before 12 to go to MK.

Fri, 23 Sep 2016 14:30

Leicester Area Radio Control Society

RichardV

6 flights

Played around with Integral in the governor settings to bring the overspeed under control. Worked pretty well on B, but not on A. I'll have to do the whole tweak procedure with A as well now. At least I'm learning.

Fri, 23 Sep 2016 08:30

Leicester Model Aero Club

RichardV

7 flights

Spent the morning going through the NEO tweaking guide on the B. Loads of steps and getting to know what it all means, but at the end it seems to fly the same and the governor seems worse. I'll do a side by side comparison with A this afternoon, but the club was getting a bit busy with fixies again.
I wish I had another club with electricity as I don't really want to run a genny for hours on end while I only fiddle with things. The wind has picked up a bit, so hopefully the fixies will go home and I can have another decent session.

Thu, 22 Sep 2016 17:00

Leicester Model Aero Club

RichardV

3 flights

Enjoyed a bit of sun and worked on piro tictoc circuits.

Thu, 22 Sep 2016 14:30

Leicester Area Radio Control Society

RichardV

6 flights

Worked on sets again.

Thu, 22 Sep 2016 10:30

Leicester Model Aero Club

RichardV

9 flights

Arrived at the club at 9, but the rain started so went home again. Came back at 10:30 and had a decent session doing set manoeuvres until all the fixies arrived. Took a break and went home for lunch.

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 17:40

Leicester Area Radio Control Society

RichardV

5 flights

Flew the A until it lost a bolt on the tail. Took B out for a couple of flights before it got too dark and I ran out of batteries.
Shared the flightline with someone get paramotor training. Had to keep an eye on what they were doing.

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 13:00

Leicester Model Aero Club

RichardV

3 flights

Was pulling the logs last night trying to find the issue I'm having with A, and found that Rx lead had disconnected from the EC3 on one side. When hanging loose, it was making enough of a connection to keep the VBar going, but it would disconnect when moved around.
Soldered it up and gave it a try over lunch today. Perfect, back to normal!
So the low voltage warnings, Rx reboots, ESC reboots, tail letting go,etc. were all down to a loose lead, only a hair's breadth from disaster 😱
My first decent session in a month.
I've fallen behind quite a bit, so to reach my target for the year, I'm going to have to average 7 flights a day for the next 100 days.

Tue, 20 Sep 2016 17:40

Leicester Model Aero Club

RichardV

5 flights

Some very tentative flying this evening. No doubt it'll take a few more days before I start trusting the heli again and start bringing it down a bit lower.

Tue, 20 Sep 2016 13:00

Leicester Area Radio Control Society

RichardV

3 flights

Flew A and managed to get some odd things to appear in the log, so I have something to ask Rainer about tonight. I managed to get the tail to give way twice and also get an ESC shutdown, no purple flashes this time though.
The B flew great, although it defo doesn't feel like A at all. I'll have to see if I can get all the settings off A and stick them on B.
Nice to be flying at lunchtime again 👍

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 13:00

Leicester Heli Flyers

RichardV

5 flights

Visited Simon's field and got to meet a few people. Alex was preparing for the 3D champs and it was fairly busy. Only one flying spot is a bit of a pain, so I didn't stay too long in the end. The A machine had another glitch and the VBar went into purple flash again, so I'll have to check the logs. The B is flying OK, but needs some tuning. Not a bad session.

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 10:00

Leicester Area Radio Control Society

RichardV

4 flights

Flew each heli and made sure they work before leaving for Simon's club. Met Pete trying out his new flying field. The A machine had one flight where I took off and it immediately shut down and the VBar had a purple flash. Resetting seemed to work.

Sat, 17 Sep 2016 12:00

Leicester Model Aero Club

RichardV

0 flights

Just did setup on the new heli. Got involved in a conversation with Bill and Jim and ran out of time when Harold arrived and needed his shed back

Tue, 16 Aug 2016 17:30

Leicester Model Aero Club

RichardV

3 flights

Was enjoying the sunshine along with a few fixies. 3rd flight and the cyclic stops responding. Nothing I could do, just hit TH and watched it go in.
A pushrod on the head was off and the link was split, and there was nothing in the logs. All the servos still work, so it must have been the link splitting. I only replaced those 2 weeks ago and they passed the pre session check, so it must have just broken.
Nothing I could have done any different, I'll just have to accept it happens. I don't have any spares so it'll be expensive this time.

Mon, 15 Aug 2016 17:45

Leicester Model Aero Club

RichardV

9 flights

Great conditions, all on my own, worked on weakside piros.

Sun, 14 Aug 2016 13:00

MK Heli Club

RichardV

15 flights

Brilliant session. Started cloudy but cleared and I stayed until the sun went down. Just Dave and I with helis, alternated with the quads all afternoon.

Sun, 14 Aug 2016 09:30

Leicester Area Radio Control Society

RichardV

10 flights

Nice session in the calm, not very good vis though. It's a very surreal club to fly at, good view of the surrounding area, completely alone and dead quiet. Feels very sim like.

Sat, 13 Aug 2016 08:00

MK Heli Club

RichardV

16 flights

Nice day at MK, even flew a quad.

Wed, 10 Aug 2016 17:45

Leicester Model Aero Club

RichardV

5 flights

Really missing my extra packs, and frustrated by the odd readings from the current sensor.

Mon, 8 Aug 2016 17:40

Leicester Model Aero Club

RichardV

6 flights

Blue skies, but fairly windy and a bit cold. I think the current sensor is stuffed. Sometimes I land after 6 minutes and it tells me I've only used half, other times it's telling me I've used the whole pack and to land after 3, but when I check the pack, there's still 50%.

Sun, 7 Aug 2016 19:15

Leicester Model Aero Club

RichardV

5 flights

I didn't think the wind wouldn't drop as the sun went down, but I thought I'd make sure and go anyway. It didn't drop.

Sun, 7 Aug 2016 11:20

Leicester Model Aero Club

RichardV

9 flights

Very windy, no-one else flying. Worked on some orientation stuff without pushing it too hard.

Sat, 6 Aug 2016 15:00

Leicester Model Aero Club

RichardV

9 flights

Had 3 flights and decided to go back to Larcs. Suddenly all the fixies up and left so I stayed and had the flightline to myself for a few hours.

Sat, 6 Aug 2016 09:30

Leicester Area Radio Control Society

RichardV

7 flights

Finished the rebuild this morning, also changed the oil in the genny. I should have done the plug as well, but I didn't have the right spanner.
Went over to Larcs and made sure everything was working. Got a bit of sun too.

Sat, 30 Jul 2016 07:00

MK Heli Club

RichardV

21 flights

Arrived super early. My genny wouldn't start due to low oil, so I had a drive around looking for a garage.
Everything was going so well, really enjoying the day, loads of flights and talking rubbish. Eventually a reversing chaos got away from me. I had easily enough height to stop and regain control, but I thought I'd take the easy route and hit the rescue. Cue a tail slide into the ground. WTF?
The log doesn't show much, some raised vibration levels, Bailout Start, and me activating throttle hold after the hit.
Basically 2 crashes in 1 month due to me using rescue when I could have easily saved it normally. I think it gives a false sense of security, so I will be removing mine.
The damage isn't too bad, mostly to the tail, and there are the usual summer discounts on this weekend, so hopefully should be back by next weekend.

Fri, 29 Jul 2016 17:15

Leicester Model Aero Club

RichardV

1 flights

Hungry, wasn't feeling it, went home after 1.

Thu, 28 Jul 2016 18:00

neXt simulator

RichardV

0 flights

The forecast was for rain and it looked windy, so I went home after work. The weather turned out to be amazing but I missed it. I got some sim in anyway and had managed to get my head around a rolling globe double reversed. Pretty ugly, but the basics are there.

Wed, 27 Jul 2016 18:00

Leicester Model Aero Club

RichardV

7 flights

A couple of fixies out for dinner. Flew while they ate and left early.

Wed, 27 Jul 2016 13:20

Lunchtime sesh. wind in the face, not great.

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 18:05

Leicester Model Aero Club

RichardV

6 flights

Grey skies, but not bad. Tomorrow should have a bit more sun.
