It was raining when I left work but, as the evenings are getting shorter, I had to take a chance it would get better. By the time I charged up, checked the heli over and had a cup of tea, the clouds had gone and the wind had died.
It turned out to be a really chilled session, lots of rolling and drills.

Finished changing the dampers in the head and had time to get out to the field for some test flights.

Started maintenance on the A machine. Replaced the main gear, main shaft, main shaft lower bearing and swapped the tail box with the barely used one from Dean's airframe. The front TT unit had been changed on Monday, so left that alone.
Still to change the dampers in the head and then she'll be ready for some more flying.

Decided to skip MK as I wasn't up for the drive. I stayed local which turned out to be fortunate, as my front TT gears stripped after a few flights and I had to go home to get a replacement.
Spent 11 hours at the field. It was fairly windy but the sun and warmth was fantastic. Finished up as the sun was going down.

Up early to take Alan fixed wing flying, then to Gumley for him to check the club out. Home for lunch and back to Larcs. Was supposed to go to the Nats but couldn't face an hour in the car with such decent weather. Went back to Gumley instead and flew until sundown. Home for some of the F1 and the chaos of some visiting friends and their kids.
The heli is starting to sound a bit ragged and the main gear teeth look a bit thin. One more day of flying and I need to start replacing parts.

I was aiming to be there really early, but got delayed a bit. I didn't miss anything because the drizzle only stopped at about 8 anyway. From there on it was endless flying for me. Quite a few people were out, including Baz who took his 700n out for a bit. I don't do nitro, but I can appreciate it when people know how to get it working Andy did over 2 hours on his 600n and that engine just goes flight after flight.
Alessio had his 700x go in after one of his servo screws came out in flight. It's not a bad crash, mostly boom, should be a quick fix.
After 2 weeks of struggling with weak side piro rainbows, it finally came together today, and I couldn't get enough of them, I think I flew more of right rudder piros than anything else.
Eventually it was just myself and David until it got to grey for me to fly any more. Home for a adult bev and a bit of F1 qualis. Perfect day!

Grey with occasional bright bits. The flies were a pain though. Kept landing on my head at the wrong time. Almost stripped a tail gear putting it down too quickly at one point.

I wanted to watch Matt practice for the 3D Champs, but he wasn't around so I skipped Larcs and went to Gumley for the morning. Then off to MK for the afternoon and some flying with Mike and the Daves. Rain set in earlier than expected but not a bad day.

Windy when I arrived so did some cleaning and checking while I waited for it to drop. Turned out to be a lovely evening for it, even found a blackberry bush to munch on.

Decent evening of flying with Tom. Last flight of the day and I was messing around with autos. I did an inverted delayed bailout, and flicked the switch the wrong way, thereby cutting the motor instead of powering it up. I flicked it back immediately but fast spool-up had been cancelled and I knew I couldn't save it. It plopped onto the grass inverted and fell over. After a brief checkover, it was flying again. The boom had shifted up a few mm, but that was fixed easily enough, so I'm not counting it as a crash. Lucky escape!

Larcs first to get some heli flights in before 9 o'clock. Then to Gumley for gala day and some fixed wing flying. Was hoping to get some of the BBQ and then go to MK, but the food was taking too long so I ended up going without.
A nice session at MK with Mike and the 2 Daves. I finished flying at 6 because of the dark skies, but stayed another hour to fly the Dave's helis and fiddle with their settings.

Got to MK by 7 and flew for 2 hours before Bob and others started arriving. Got to listen to Andy's interesting observations on IRCHA. Gary put his Logo into the ground in a big way. It almost reached my car and Allessio had to run from a blade that went spinning off. Only a few minutes later Andy had a lockout and crashed his nitro 600. Not too bad, but Gary's is a rekit.
Got loads of flying in, had a nap around 5 0'clock and left at 6. Great day and banter with Bob, Mike and everyone else.

The forecast for the next 3 days was rain, so naturally I storage charged the packs this morning. Of course this evening turned out to be flyable, which meant a mad rush to pick Tom up and charge everything on one charger.
No wind meant lots of midges and spiders but nice to be out anyway.

Up early at Larcs. Was intending to stay a while but the genny died and refused to start again. Went to Gumley for a couple of hours before it got too busy. Went through to MK and had a great afternoon. It was pretty windy, but I think I'm getting better and the wind doesn't seem to affect me as much.
Sold a PSU and charger to David, so I need to order a 2nd iCharger.

Rain forecast for the afternoon so I got down to Larcs at 7. Lovely blue skies and warm enough. Cleaned the shed out a bit between flights. Once we get rid of the cobwebs and rubbish, it'll be a decent place to hide from the elements.
The weather seemed to hold, so after lunch I went to Gumley until the wind got too strong.
A pretty good day of flying considering the forecast was so bad.

Not a very good forecast so decided to stay local. Went to Larcs for an early session before meeting Gary at Gumley. Had a great morning flying with him and the usual fixie group. He managed to smoke a Turnigy pack while putting it into the Logo. Never seen one go up like that before.
Eventually the rain arrived and we called it a day.

Prepared the car to go to WHFC the previous evening, but just didn't feel like the drive when I woke up.
Went to LMAC and spent the morning with Scott and Kev. With all the other members having gone to RIAT, it was just us swapping flights and having a laugh. Eventually it was time to go to MK, but I couldn't be bothered with packing up and driving all that way while Gumley was empty.
Eventually a bit of drizzle came in and I took a break to watch the F1.
Went back to Gumley afterwards for a fantastic evening of flying on my own.

Was supposed to go to WHFC funfly, but with a variable forecast of wind and rain I decided to stay local. A good thing as after 3 flights the rain came down and I packed up. Went home to watch the Qualis and try and figure out the FTM. It's taking more practice than any of my other rounds and will probably be the one I drop, so it's pretty frustrating.
Went out in the afternoon and took the laptop onto the flightline. Played all the music I've gathered just to see what worked and felt good to fly to. Might do the same again tomorrow just to see if it still works.

I got to abuse one of his 75C desire packs. The ESC was just about thermaling but the pack wasn't remotely warm. Too much pack for me though, the 35s are enough.
No real practice, just messing around in the grey sky.

Started off at Gumley. It never really got busy so I stayed until it was time to go to MK.
Efforts were made to retrieve Mike's Goblin bits from the tree using his gaffer taped waggler.
DO showed up later and we had a good conversation about set manoeuvres. He's still miles ahead of me, but at least I'm at a level where can speak about the same moves.
My FS routine is pretty much down. I need to refine some of the transitions, but at least I'm ready to move onto the new FTM.

A long morning doing BMFA tests at CMHC. Then through to MK for some SM and FS practice. Got to watch Duncan doing his prep for the World Champs and pick up some tips from him and Wayne. DavidS and I did some practice calling together. Hopefully we can make it a regular thing.
Mike put his Goblin in the big tree (again?) He managed to knock the body out but the canopy and boom are still up there.
Home at 8 for F1 qualifying.

Wasn't planning to fly but the lure of the sun and warmth was too much. Off to the flying field after work before I realised I'd left the radio at home. Went back and got it, had some nice flying barefoot and in shorts in the sun. Made some changes to the F3N freestyle routine. Gonna get it bedded in well before the next comp.

A day of F3N at Staffs Heli Club. I thought my first round of sets was pretty good but it scored lower than I was hoping and gave me a third with 740. I messed the freestyle round up by rushing it and getting a few things wrong. That got me a 6th with 781. Music didn't fair much better, timing was off and got most of it wrong. That was another 6th with 706. I almost didn't do the last round of sets but it was very close between a few of us so I gave it a go. Although I felt I flew it terribly, bar the Double O One, it turned out to be my best scoring round with 874. Overall an unexpected 3rd place and on the podium with Alex Hawtin and Aaron Cole.

Was going to go before work, but it started raining just as I was leaving. Had a lunchtime session instead.
It was pretty windy, useful for trying the routines. After 4 months of struggle with the Jack Sparrow flight to music, I've decided to ditch it for something else. I think I've found the music I'm replacing it with and now I have 8 days to plan the routine and practice it. I could skip the music round but I might as well try and put something together.

SM was reasonable with good vis and the wind from behind. Still a lot to work on. FS is getting better, but still need to clean up the final bit. Not easy using batteries with 400 cycles that die towards the end, but there aren't any Desire in the country at the moment. FTM is still only halfway there and even that bit needs refining. Will have to finish that ASAP so I can start practising it.
